I’m having palpitations where my heart seems too skip a beat and also diabetes. Could this be due to sleep apnoea?

Long-term, untreated sleep apnoea has been linked to high blood pressure and heart problems. For example, you may develop fatty deposits in your arteries that can lead to angina, heart attack and stroke. Sometimes your heartbeat can speed up, slow down or become erratic. These problems are known as cardiac arrhythmias.

If you have Obstructive Sleep Apnoea, your body may become less able to control the amount of glucose in your blood. This is known as type 2 diabetes. If your body becomes less effective at using and storing fat in addition to sugar, you have what is known as metabolic syndrome.

These diseases threaten your health, potentially leading to serious disability. They may even shorten your life unless you receive prompt treatment.
