I’ve tried to lose weight before but now I’m really determined to do it. I go to a dietician and the gym and I’ve lost 4 pound already. I was wondering whether my sleep apnoea will go if I get to my target weight?

According to one study, if you lose 10% of your body weight, the severity level of your Obstructive Sleep Apnoea will decline by approximately 26%.

If you are overweight or obese with severe sleep apnoea, you will probably not be cured by losing 10% of your body weight. However, you will have fewer apnoeas and hypopnoeas per hour of sleep (known as the apnoea-hypopnoea index, or AHI). For example, if you had a severe AHI of 31 and you lost 10% of your body weight, your new AHI would be 23, placing you in the moderate category.

If you are overweight with mild sleep apnoea and you lost 10% of your body weight your Obstructive Sleep Apnoea could be cured.
